Lavco webmasters have answered the call! After receiving some feedback regarding the vast range of Braille and standard signs on the Lavco website, we have made improvements to the layout of this section. Navigation has been made simpler, with the introduction of nine separate sub-categories, to assist in finding the correct sign for your application quickly and easily. The divisions of our Braille and standard signs include Accessible, Ambulant, Baby Change, General Braille, Female, Male, Shower, Unisex and finally Standard (or non-compliant AS1428.1-2009) signs. Braille Signage Positions. We are often asked to provide information as to the positioning of Braille Signage for access and mobility doors within a public building. The code states that the signs are to be placed not less than 1200mm and not more than 1600mm above the finished floor level. Signs that have a single line of tactile characters must be placed not less than 1250mm and not more than 1350mm above the finished floor level. Signs identifying rooms etc are to be placed on the wall on the latch side of the door with the leading edge of the sign to be located between 50mm and 300mm from the architrave. If it is not possible to place the sign within this position then the sign may be placed on the door itself. Another question that is often raised, is in relation to the RH (Right hand) and LH (Left Hand) text that is shown on braille signs. This effectively means the side of the toilet that the disabled person (when backing into position) transfers off their wheelchair and onto the toilet seat. We will often ask the customer for the handing of the grab rail as this will also provide the correct handing for the sign.
